The new era for live theatrical productions at Derby Theatre officially got under way in October 2009 with the first public performances taking place.

Since the University of Derby stepped in to purchase the lease for the former Derby Playhouse we have been busy refurbishing the theatre and improving the facilities to welcome the public, performers, students and staff. We hope you will see even more developments to your theatre over the next few years.

The University of Derby’s vision has been to create a 'learning theatre' - where staff and students can gain vital work experience and skills in all forms of theatre arts.

The uniqueness of the partnership between the University and DerbyLIVE, who manage the calendar of public performances, is bringing the best professional, student and amateur productions to this great city centre venue.
