Derby Theatre is delighted to announce its Christmas show for 2013/14, the WORLD PREMIERE production of Horrible Histories: Horrible Christmas by best-selling children’s author, Terry Deary, best known for his phenomenally popular Horrible Histories series.

Terry has written this stage version especially for Derby Theatre and Birmingham Stage Company, who will be making a much-welcome return to co-produce and present this brand new, never-before-seen fun and festive ‘horrible’ Christmas show. Derby Theatre and Birmingham Stage Company are currently co-producing and presenting E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web – now showing until Sat 12 Jan.

Terry’s Horrible Histories series are still popular thanks to a BBC television series based on the books. There are around 60 ‘Horrible’ titles with total sales of 25 million in 40 countries.

Get ready for a journey through history but with mince pies and mistletoe. It is Christmas 2013 and something is not quite right. In fact something is hideously, hopelessly, horribly wrong. As children wait for Father Christmas and all the presents are beneath the tree, a fat old man slides down their chimney and nicks the lot! Can this be the real meaning of old Saint Nick?

But by chance one small boy spots the snatcher and sets off to save Christmas - from wartime austerity to Tudor cruelty back to Herod’s massacre of the innocents and the Dark Ages. Can Christmas be saved for the world?

Gary Johnson (General Manager, Derby Theatre) said: “After the sell-out success of two Horrible Histories stage productions at Derby Theatre earlier this year; we are extremely excited about this Christmas collaboration with world renowned author Terry Deary and Birmingham Stage Company and feel honoured to be the venue who will present the world premiere production of Horrible Christmas. It guarantees to contain the usual mix of jokes, lashings of gore and a festive-related, spiced-up look at the past, which adults and children alike seem to adore about Terry’s stories”

Don’t miss this horribly adventurous Christmas treat for the whole family from Derby Theatre and Birmingham Stage Company, from Fri 6 Dec 2013 until Sat 11 Jan 2014.
