By Frank Wedekind in a new version by Anya Reiss
Directed by Ben Kidd

Unnerving, entertaining, funny and dark, Wedekind's definitive play about youth caused riots when it exploded onto the stage in 1906 and has lost none of its provocative power.

Brought bang up-to-date by award winning young playwright Anya Reiss and director Ben Kidd, this new version examines the exuberance, intensity and confusion of teenage life today. Spring Awakening asks important and pressing questions about how young people are shaped for their future by a generation that doesn't understand them.

From Headlong who brought their award-winning version of The Seagull to Derby Theatre in 2013. Following their recent sell out productions of new plays Chimerica (winner of the Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Best New Play award, Olivier Award Winner for Best New Play, Best Director, Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design), The Effect and ENRON, and their remarkable versions of 1984, The Seagull and Romeo and Juliet, Headlong breathes fresh life into another classic text, with co-producing partners West Yorkshire Playhouse and Nuffield, Southampton. Anya Reiss is winner of both the Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards for Most Promising Playwright.

Headlong’s London and touring 2014 season includes 1984 and American Psycho The Musical and The Nether.

Age Guidance 16+ Contains strong language and scenes of a sexual and violent nature

20 - 24 May
Written by Deborah McAndrew
Directed by Barrie Rutter

A gentle, deeply moving drama poised at the tipping point of war. Intensely nostalgic and emotionally rich, this will both entertain and tug at your heart strings.

It's an idyllic summer in 1914 rural Lancashire. The looming war barely registers... but it will. You'll follow the stories of folk with colour, character and charm, and witness their personal transitions from exuberance and touching naivety to a profound and devastating loss of innocence.

Performed by the charismatic cast of actor-musicians that is Northern Broadsides; multi-award winning and recognised by audiences and critics alike as one of the finest national touring theatre companies in the land.

**** "Rutter is on fine form" - The Times
*** "A deeply moving spectacle" - The Independent
