Theatre degrees at Derby

Take one of our theatre courses at Derby and get the opportunity to study acting, directing, theatre in education, playwriting, technical theatre and production work. You'll also have the chance to take part in public performances as part of your course as well as outside of it.

Single honours or joint honours?

You can take theatre as a single honours degree - BA (Hons) Theatre Arts - or combine it with one or two other subjects for a joint honours degree. The single honours option is more practical and you'll have plenty of opportunities to perform, direct, work backstage or design set, costume, lighting and sound. If you take the joint honours option - Theatre Arts - you'll be studying and analysing theatre more and can combine it with a different subject so you get a more varied degree. Theatre Studies can also be studied at either our Derby or Buxton campus.

Performance Opportunities

You will have the opportunity to perform at Derby Theatre and in schools, develop your own writing to performance standard, and take productions to various festivals and other venues. We have excellent links with Buxton Opera House, who we work with regularly to put on Shakespeare in the Dome - playing to more than 2,000 people over four nights.

Carry on your creativity outside of the classroom

As a student in the School of Humanities, there are lots of opportunities to develop your creativity, whether that's specifically to do with theatre or not:

Join the Theatre Society

Take part in open writing workshops
