A chance to try the new scheme

Youth Theatre Taster Sessions

Junk Shop Theatre, the company recently appointed to run a new youth theatre scheme for Derby Theatre, and Christina Lydon, Derby Theatre’s Learning Manager, are inviting young people to take part in a taster session which will provide them with an insight into the new scheme.

The taster sessions, on Sat 17th November, will give interested young people an opportunity to meet the new leader, meet some other like-minded young people and to gain an insight into the production that the youth theatre will present at the beginning of April 2013 in the Main House at Derby Theatre, Ruckus in the Garden by David Farr.

The taster sessions do not guarantee that a young person will gain a place in the scheme that will produce and present the show, but it will help them decide if they want to audition for the youth theatre. Details of rehearsal dates and the expected commitment by participants will also be given out at the taster sessions. Regular rehearsals will be on Sunday mornings from January with public performances during the first week of the Easter holidays 2013.

Taster sessions are FREE but a place at the youth theatre will be £70 per term. There are some free and subsidised places available for young people on free school meals or for siblings who want to attend.

The taster sessions will be an hour long and are open to young people in school years 7-13 (secondary and sixth form).

When booking a session, please let us know if your son/daughter has any learning needs that we should know about – these might include dyslexia, aspergers or sensory difficulties. This will help us to ensure that activities are accessible for everyone.

Under 16s MUST have their place booked by a parent or guardian. Young people of 16 years and over can book for themselves, though we recommend still gaining parental permission to attend.
