Derby Theatre has a long and rich history of delivering high quality drama to audiences. Previously Derby Playhouse, our unique new partnership with University of Derby and as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, Derby Theatre has transformed itself from a traditional producing house to an organisation of training, nurturing and artistic excellence.
Derby Theatre Productions
Derby Theatre currently produces three main stage each year, along with a Studio Christmas show for younger audiences.
From 2018, having been an uplift in funding from Arts Council England, Derby Theatre will produce an additional production each year for family audiences and will also continue with its RETOLD series of productions.
Derby Theatre has two great theatre spaces under one roof. Our main auditorium with seating for around 530 is a generous space which retains an intimate feel, whilst downstairs, our flexible studio theatre can be presented in a variety of different ways from cabaret-style to raked seating for up to 110.
The Derby Creative Arts Network (CAN) is a new project led by Derby Theatre and funded by the Arts Council England Producing Hubs funded project. It will programme work in community settings across the city; produce new small-scale productions that will tour into communities and beyond; new mid-scale work that will play on the Derby Theatre main stage and outdoor work which will play at festivals like Festé and across the city.
Thank you for your interest in bringing your show to Derby Theatre. As you can imagine, we get lots of requests from companies who would like to bring their work to our Main Auditorium and Studio spaces, so it is a hugely competitive process. This page will offer you guidance on how we like to receive information and how we will let you know if we are able to programme your show.
