Doing Difference Differently: Theatre Makers' Masterclass

Workshops and Learning , Artist Development
Wednesday 4 March 2020

This event is held at the Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton.

Alongside their national tour of The Twisted Tale of Hansel and Gretel,  join Open Theatre for a practical and engaging masterclass, exploring the company’s unique approach to creating theatre: a tried and tested Nonverbal Physical Theatre style.

This style is about allowing all participants, regardless of more traditional definitions of performance ability and of levels of confidence, to shine and thrive.

Our style of Nonverbal Physical Theatre involves play, copying, simple props, music and movement. The practice incorporates a range of techniques drawn from traditional clowning, physical theatre, mime and silent movie. It does not pressure to ‘perform’ but offers avenues to explore, play and connect. It’s a highly adaptive and individual process, leading to positive impact on learning outcomes, capacity to learn, confidence and sense of self, and the roles young people can play in the world.

This accessible masterclass is suitable for theatre makers, actors, directors, facilitators, teachers, both with and without learning disabilities, who are interested in exploring this style of theatre and gaining skills in creating integrated theatre work.

In line with Open Theatre’s ethos and working practices, the workshops will be co-facilitated by a professional performer/practitioner who has a learning disability.

If a Masterclass attenders requires a support worker, this additional ticket will be free of charge.
