In 2019, Firs Primary, Becket Primary and Bemrose Primary worked alongside Derby Theatre, Artcore, Sinfonia Viva and Baby People, as part of This Is Derby, to create their own version of The Jungle Book, which was performed as a Curtain Raiser for audiences before the professional Derby Theatre production.

This film by Black Mercury Ltd documents the process, with interviews with the school staff and parents.


The Positive Impact of the Plus One Programme

The Plus One programme works with looked after children and care leavers to offer free arts and cultural opportunities. This film looks at the positive impact these experiences have on the young people's lives.

The research and evaluation of Plus One was conducted by University of Derby with Derby Theatre.

Bemrose Knights - a response to Crongton Knights

We worked with The Bemrose School to make a creative response to Crongton Knights - our co-production with Pilot TheatreBelgrade Theatre, Coventry and York Theatre Royal.

We worked with students in the Apple Tree Unit at Bemrose School in Derby as part of our Reimagine project.

In this film directed by Omar Khan, you can watch the students' rap and scene, inspired by the play, and find out more about the project through interviews with the students and staff.

The pupils worked alongside Derby Theatre's Community and Learning Associate Tom Craig, Baby People Music Artist/Producer Zeo, Film Maker Omar Khan and professional Photographer Robert Day.

The film was set to premiere at the Crongton Knights press night at Derby Theatre, before the show was cancelled due to Coronavirus.


The Making of Blue Road - Youth Theatre

Watch the making of the 2017 Youth Theatre production of The Blue Road. Commissioned by Dundee Rep, Derby Theatre, Royal & Derngate and Theatre Royal Plymouth, The Blue Road was an inspiring project that saw this brand new play premiere in four venues across the UK, by the most exciting young actors. Performed in Derby by Derby Theatre Youth Theatre.
