Derby Theatre and cultural organisations Baby People, Déda, Artcore, and Wrongsemble are calling out to young people to reimagine a future post-Covid-19 and get involved in a new digital creative project.
So What's The Tea?
It’s the year 2020, COVID19 - lockdown, isolation, self-distancing, 2m apart, pandemic, crisis, unprecedented times, uncertain future, gloves, masks, life on hold, queuing, standing still.
Obviously, 2020 hasn’t gone to plan. But we all have a chance to reimagine… not just 2020 but our futures beyond.
But should things just go back to normal when we are released from lockdown?
Have some things changed for the better?
How would you reimagine the world differently when all this is over? How will it work?
Right now, we are all part of living history; make your mark and help decide the way this story is told and its legacy shared – this is our story, let’s reimagine together.
Ways to Get Involved
1) #REIMAGINE2020 Creative Responses - for ages 13-25
If you’re aged between 13 and 25 we want to hear from you!
Take part by submitting a creative response to the questions above - reimagining a future post Covid-19 - for a chance for your work to be shared across Derby Theatre and partners' social media channels.
All submissions and creations will also go towards a final, collective digital creation.
Your creative response could use performance, art, photography, poetry, song, dance or a short film of up to 2-minutes (you could even use TikTok).
Responses can be made alone or with friends within this age range, as long as you follow social distancing guidelines and remain at least two metres apart.
How To Submit Your Creative Response
Please e-mail your submissions to email@example.com with the subject line #Reimagine2020 Creative Response.
PLEASE NOTE: if you are aged 16-25 and would like to apply for the 5 week Reimagine project you must complete and submit the application form with your creative response.
For video submissions, please upload your video to YouTube and email us the link. If you would prefer that your video remained private please set it to 'Unlisted' before publishing so only those with the link will be able to view.
As well us sending us your creative response, you can also post it on your social media platforms with #Reimagine2020 and @derbytheatre for us to share. We want as many of our followers as possible to see what you have created!

3) Reimagine Digital Project - applications now closed
As part of #Reimagine2020, we'll be running a digital 5 week co-creation project for ages 16-25.
Applications Now Closed
We are recruiting six teams of 10 people. Each team will work in collaboration with one of six leading specialist artists, collectively specialising in the areas of writing and performing, devising and theatre making, film making, dance and movement, music and virtual graffiti to create their response around the theme #Reimagine2020.
These online sessions will offer the chance to creatively explore the positive changes from Covid-19 lockdown and how it has enabled people to see and understand the world differently.
The final pieces will then be shared and celebrated across a range of cultural platforms, regionally and nationally, with support from Arts Council England. We want to give young people the voice they deserve through this pandemic.
Meet The Artists
As part of the 5-week online Reimagine Project, young people will work in one of six teams out of filmmaking, theatre, dance, music, writing or graffiti art and work alongside top professional Midlands artists.
Meet the artists using the link below.
The Reimagine project, led by Derby Theatre and Derby's Cultural Education Partnership, will provide a wealth of exciting arts and sports related opportunities for young people and local schools in and around the city.
The project has been made possible through £1.1 million of investment from Arts Council England through the Young People’s Performance Fund, with additional support from Derby’s Opportunity Area, Derby County in the Community Trust and Derby City Council.
