Exploring New Voices: Future Practice in Applied Theatre Conference

Monday 21 January, 9:30am - 5pm
Derby Theatre Productions , University Productions
Monday 21 January 2019

Join us for a day of inspiring conversation, dynamic workshops, and thrilling performance from across the field of Applied Theatre.

Extend and refresh your practice among a creative community of theatre-makers, academics and world-class practitioners. We’ll be asking questions, addressing challenges, and sharing ideas as we explore how Applied Theatre can bring ‘New Voices’ into our work and revolutionise the way we co-create with diverse communities.

Teachers, academics, students, and theatre-makers will all find new ways of developing and exploring their practice. You will exchange invaluable insights with practitioners working in a variety of fields within Applied Theatre, and participate in workshops led by the nation’s leading Applied Theatre specialists, each of whom will guide participants on a different area of practice under the umbrella concept of shared agency with communities:

•Freelance director Anthony Haddon, formerly of Blah Blah Blah Theatre will look at the ‘Teacher-in-Role’ method

•Freelance director Tony McBride, formerly of Cardboard Citizens will discuss how we can share the stories that matter to young people

Deborah Pakkar-Hull of Blah Blah Blah Theatre

Tim Wheeler of Mind the Gap Theatre will explore methods of socially engaged practice

Andy Watson MBE of Geese Theatre Company will assess the use of mask in Applied Theatre

Keynote presentations will be provided by Derby Theatre’s Artistic Director and Chief Executive Sarah Brigham, academic and director Ava Hunt, and Applied Theatre expert Dr Geoff Readman.
