Inspired by the true story of William Freeman, a black slave who was put on trial in 19th century New York, and the first case to raise ‘insanity’ as a defence. Exploring the relationships between people of colour, the criminal justice systems and mental health, the show spans from segregation in 1846 America to the death of Sarah Reed in a UK prison in 2016.

Strictly Arts’ stunning mix of high-energy physical theatre, acappella singing, humour and powerful drama, creates an extraordinarily moving and affecting experience for audiences.
