Put your drinks down and your hands together, all the way from Domremy in France, via Sheffield and 600 years, it’s JOAN! Packed with guts and a lot of heart, Joan fuses lyrical new writing with drag king cabaret for the very first time. An earthy story of courage, conviction, hope, survival and love, this is Joan of Arc - quite possibly the worlds first drag king. Performed by Drag Idol Champion 2014 LoUis CYfer.

What happens when a disguise soon becomes something a lot more real, and you have to fight for who you really are? A fearless new show about what it means to stand out, stand up and stand alone.

Recommended age 12+

Joan is directed by Lucy J Skilbeck, Derby Theatre’s BBC Performing Arts Fellow 2014, and made in association with Milk Presents.

RETOLD

The RETOLD programme is a series of new one-woman plays commissioned by Derby Theatre, from some of the most exciting female voices in contemporary theatre today. Our aim is to crack open classic tales and see the story afresh from the perspective of the female character. In 2014 we premiered the first play in the series, Penelope RETOLD, written and performed by Caroline Horton and directed by Lucy Skilbeck. It received critical acclaim and secured a national tour in 2015.
