Call Out: Actors required for 'Writing for Performance' MA Rehearsed Readings

Background

The University of Derby and Derby Theatre work in partnership on several academic programmes including the MA, Writing for Performance.  For this programme, the final module sees students writing their own scripts in tv, theatre or radio.  Our partnership gives the chance for these scripts to be given in a rehearsed reading so that students can hear their work lifted from the page.

Call Out

We are looking for 6 x East Midlands-based actors who have trained or worked professionally and must be over 18+ to work with a range of directors on 40 – 45 minute extracts from up to 7 scripts from Tuesday 25 June – Friday 28 June.

The writer for each script will also be present in the room. Actors would rehearse for two days, exploring characters, narrative and themes on a basic level. They would then perform the rehearsed readings in front of the student cohort, lecturers and invited guests.

Four scripts would be performed on Thursday and three scripts on Friday. There may be a number of voluntary student actors to supplement the cast.

We are looking for a range of playing ages, cultural diversity and a mix of genders.

How To Apply

To apply, please send in your CV and headshot or Spotlight link to Stuart Allen, Senior Producer at s.allen@derby.ac.uk by Friday 7 June.  We will be in touch to let you know the outcome by Friday 14 June.

Fee

There will be a one-off fee of £300 for this contract. Scripts will rehearse and be read at Derby Theatre’s Rehearsal Studios, on Forman Street, Derby.
