Call-out for Deaf performer for upcoming production of The Emperor’s New Clothes
Derby Theatre is looking for a Deaf Performer for their
next production of The Emperor’s New Clothes.
The Emperor's New Clothes is a co-production between Derby Theatre, Polka Theatre and Hiccup Theatre. It will play at both Derby Theatre and Polka Theatre, London from April 2022, with rehearsals starting at the end of February.
The production will have full BSL and Captioning throughout. We have cast the other 5 roles, which includes Deaf and Hearing performers, but still need to find this one role:
The contract runs from the Monday 28 Feb – Sunday 22 May
You will be paid in line with Equity/UK Theatre rates of pay.
The role is for the part of Bobbin, the brave child who decides to stand up and challenge what they know not to be true.
We need an actor who:
- Is highly proficient in BSL.
- Is any gender and any age, but can play a child truthfully (they don’t have to look young but they need to embody the childlike qualities of the child)
- Is conformable with devising and collaborating. We will work with a BSL Consultant but the actor will not be afraid to try things out and have a go at translation to be honed and supported by the BSL consultant.
- Is flexible and willing to contribute to the process and happy to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. (The production is part-scripted, part-devised).
