Call Out: Open auditions for members of the community to be part of an exciting Derby CAN production this summer
Derby CAN is looking for adults from the Midlands area to be in the community ensemble for their upcoming production of 4 Walls in June, with open auditions being held on Saturday 26 February.
4 Walls is a co-production with Derby Theatre, produced and presented as part of Derby CAN (Creative Arts Network), written by Rukus, a UK recording and hip-hop artist, DJ and Producer from Derby, and co-created with the community. The production will play on the main stage at the Theatre from Friday 10 until Saturday 18 June.
Are you interested in performing on the main stage at Derby Theatre? Would you like to be part of this exciting new production, performing alongside a professional company, and do you have the time and availability required?
What are we looking for, and who can audition?
We are looking for adults aged 18+ from the Midlands area, ideally from Derby, or the ability to travel to and from the city. Predominantly, roles in the community ensemble are for Black and Global Majority people, but all genders, ethnicities, or people who identify as disabled, are welcome to apply.
Previous experience or training in performing is not essential or required, but an eagerness and energy to perform, and a strong commitment to the production, is. This is an ideal opportunity for amateur theatre performers and enthusiasts, someone who wants to try something new, or you may have visited Derby Theatre before to see a show and wondered what it would be like to perform. All auditionees MUST be available for all performance dates (including Wednesday and Saturday matinees). Rehearsals start on Monday 9 May with public performances on from Friday 10 until Saturday 18 June.
The 4 Walls community ensemble is a non-paid opportunity, but some expenses will be covered, and all ensemble members will be offered an allocation of free tickets for the production.
Audition date and details
We will be holding audition workshops on Saturday 26 February to recruit our community ensemble. Each workshop will last for one hour and will include group movement working, script reading plus voice work and singing.
