Departure Lounge 2020 festival to be postponed until early 2021

Due to the current Coronavirus situation, we are sad to announce that Departure Lounge, our nationally recognised and highly acclaimed annual summer festival of ground-breaking work and fresh and exciting performance, will not go ahead in its usual July slot this year.

Produced and presented by In Good Company, the flagship creative, professional and development programme, and Derby Theatre; the Festival takes months of planning and preparation, working collaboratively and in partnership with numerous artists and companies, both regionally and from across the UK.

Therefore, with advance planning, producing and rehearsing being restricted and limited at this time, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone.

However, in line with our on-going support for artists, and a public commitment to showcase work, we are now working towards presenting the Festival in early spring 2021, both through its much-loved Departure Lounge festival-feel format in a variety of exciting spaces at the Theatre and through innovative new channels and platforms.

We’d like to take this opportunity to announce and pay tribute to some of the theatre makers and companies that were due to showcase work at this year's festival.  Make sure to follow them on Twitter and check out their work using the links below.

We look forward to welcoming them to Derby Theatre in 2021!
