Derby Theatre National Poetry Day Showcase Call Out
Derby Theatre and Poet Aoife O’Connor are looking for 8 early-career writers or people who have an interest in poetry to take part in workshops and a showcase performance.
Closing Date: Tuesday 7 September, 5pm
Important Dates: Workshops on 11, 18 & 25 September, showcase on Thursday 7 October.
Fee: Each participant will receive three paid-for workshops and £150 will be offered for the creation and performance of the work.
Those selected will be invited to three Saturday workshops on 11, 18 and 25 of September, 12-1:30pm. These workshops will be with established poetry facilitators who will teach a mix of skills and help you produce a poem that is 3-5 minutes in length.
On the evening of the Thursday 7 October at the Derby Loves You venue at Derby Market Place, the 8 poets will share their poems at a showcase performed by several local poets. The night is set to be hosted by Henry Raby, the Artistic Director of Say Owt.
How To Apply
To express an interest in the commission, please send a short email explaining why you’d like to get involved in the project, feel free to also include one example of previous creative work (no more than 1 page), in a written, video or audio format to Aoife O’Connor, firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are looking for a range of people with different experiences in poetry, both written and in performance and are also looking for people who may never have written poetry before. When applying, the key points to address are your previous history with poetry, however limited, and what you’d like to get from this experience.
The closing date is Tuesday 7 September, 5pm, with selections made on and informed by Wednesday 8 September.
We will let all applicants know either way by email and in advance of the first workshop on Saturday 11 September.
If you have any queries, please contact Aoife O’Connor at A.Oconnor2@derby.ac.uk.
