Derby Theatre thrilled with donation for children in care from Toyota Manufacturing UK Charitable Trust
Derby Theatre thrilled with donation from Toyota Manufacturing UK Charitable Trust towards their work with children in care.
Over the recent festive period, Derby Theatre were thrilled to welcome over 100 staff and their family members from the locally-based Toyota Manufacturing UK to see performances of
Peter Pan and The Gingerbread Man at the venue, and even more thrilled when the world renowned car manufacturing company presented them with a cheque for £1000 to go towards Plus One, a citywide ticket donation scheme which provides children in care and care leavers with free arts experiences in the city.
The Toyota visit to the Theatre was to provide their employees with a family-friendly, enjoyable time out over the Christmas period.
Plus One is a citywide ticket donation scheme where major arts and cultural organisations in Derby, including Derby Theatre, Déda, QUAD and Baby People, have joined forces to provide children in care with opportunities to see and experience live performances, films, workshops, and a host of further arts and culture related opportunities, throughout the city and beyond. The cultural partners work closely with the nationally renowned and recognised charity, Barnardo’s and other expert partners to ensure that the tickets and experiences generated through donations are given to children in care, their carers and care leavers. To date, the scheme has raised tens of thousands of pounds and has provided thousands of young people with free arts experiences.
Sarah Brigham (Artistic Director and Chief Executive, Derby Theatre) said:
On behalf of Derby Theatre, and all cultural partners involved in Plus One, I am absolutely thrilled and grateful for Toyota’s incredibly kind donation towards this invaluable scheme. We are all so proud of Plus One, and the combination of enjoyable, insightful and life-changing experiences the scheme has provided for children in care in our region. We strongly believe in, and value, partnership working and building relationships with different organisations in the city and beyond, and I would like to congratulate Toyota on manufacturing cars for 25 years based in this great county of ours.”
Jim Crosbie (Trustee to the Charitable Trust and Toyota Manufacturing UK’s Deputy Managing Director) said:
“The Toyota Manufacturing UK Charitable Trust is delighted to support local, worthy causes such as Plus One, especially when our funding will bring many smiles to lots of faces”.
