Derby Theatre Youth Theatre present Influence by Andy McGregor this July
Derby Theatre Youth Theatre is proud to present, for two dates only from Friday 26 until Saturday 27 July, Andy McGregor’s Influence, a vibrant, fun and celebratory piece highlighting the adventures and challenges of being young in Britain today.
Following the huge success of The Blue Road, Derby Theatre Youth Theatre year 10-13 groups are excited to perform this brand new play. Influence is directed by Nicky Bellenger and commissioned by Derby Theatre, Dundee REP, Leeds Playhouse, Northern Stage, Royal & Derngate and Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Cameras all around. Phones sucking out your data. They are watching you. But who exactly are ‘they’?
A group of friends play cat and mouse with power as they switch off their screens and are thrusted into the offline world 300 feet underground.
Inspired by Modern TV hits Black Mirror and Stranger Things, this surreal comic adventure explores the fear of growing up in a world that is not this generation's creation.
Director, Nicky Bellenger said:
“Influence is an action packed adventure story that, at it’s very heart, is about young people working together to acknowledge and accept that their differences are what makes them stronger in the face of unexpected challenges. The play is fast and moves to multiple locations, as we chase after the evil Dr Ford and his corrupt organisation, Datamine. Influence is funny! As serious as the content of the play sounds, Andy McGregor has written a comedy, and our cast have translated his sense of humour into something that they’ve taken real ownership of.”
Influence Curtain Raiser
What does it mean to be age 14 - 18 in 2019? What lies ahead for this generation and how much of an influence do they really have on their future? Taking inspiration from Influence, and drawing on personal, political and cultural experiences, the Friday Year 10-13 group will open the evening with a brand new curtain raiser performance.
