Most accessible Christmas to date at Derby Theatre

Derby Theatre is pleased and proud to present a range of accessible performances and services to its audience members and visitors this Christmas.

The Theatre is currently receiving rave reviews, from the press and audiences alike, for their two Christmas productions this festive season, Hansel & Gretel in the main house and Goldilocks and the Three Bears in the Studio.

Derby Theatre welcomes thousands of people through their doors throughout the year, especially at Christmas time, and is committed to making ‘theatre for all’ through continually striving to make the Theatre as accessible and welcoming to as many people as possible. As part of this mission, the Theatre has scheduled more accessible performances than ever before this Christmas, with BSL, Audio Described, Dementia-Friendly and RELAXED performances on offer over the festive period.

BSL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES
BSL interpreted performances for D/deaf and some hard of hearing audience members have been scheduled for:

Hansel & Gretel on Tue 11 December at 2pm and Sat 22 December at 1pm
And for Goldilocks on Wednesday 12 December at 1.30pm and Saturday 15 December at 1.30pm

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES
Audio Described performances for blind and some partially sighted audience members are scheduled for: 

Hansel & Gretel on Thursday 13 December at 2pm and Saturday 29 December at 1pm. 

RELAXED PERFORMANCES
RELAXED performances are specifically aimed to appeal to audience members who are on the autistic spectrum or have sensory sensitivities, or those who would benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere as regards to making noise or moving around and RELAXED performances are scheduled for:

Hansel & Gretel on Tue 18 December at 2pm and Thursday 3 January at 2pm
And for Goldilocks on Wednesday 19 December at 1.30pm and Wednesday 2 January at 1.30pm.

DEMENTIA-FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES
Derby Theatre is already pretty laid back, but Dementia-Friendly performances provide an even more relaxed attitude to leaving and re-entering the theatre and making noise, the house lights will be kept slightly on and there will be a quiet space available for use at any time before, during and after the show. There will also be plenty of our friendly staff available to offer assistance on the day too, including staff who are Dementia Friends. Dementia-Friendly performances are scheduled for:

Hansel & Gretel on Friday 28 December at 2pm
and for Goldilocks on Saturday 29 December at 1.30pm.

Access at Derby Theatre
Derby Theatre welcomes all customers and has an extensive range of services on offer throughout the year to ensure audience members and other visitors have an enjoyable and comfortable visit. Other accessible services we provide include: wheelchair access to all areas of the theatre, captioning via the Difference Engine, accessible toilets on every level, welcoming assistance dogs, assisted access scheme, large print brochures and personal support with providing advice and guidance on accessing any of these services.
