National Theatre Connections Festival for young people returns June 2021 and tickets now on sale
Following a gap of two years, Derby Theatre is thrilled to see the return of National Theatre Connections, an exciting festival of new writing, performances and workshops for young people aged 11 – 25.
The festival celebrates and showcases youth talent across the UK, with events taking place at Derby Theatre from Thursday 10 – Saturday 12 June.
Each year, the National Theatre commissions high profile and up-and-coming writers to create new plays for performance by young companies all over the country, and we are thrilled to be welcoming seven talented young companies in the region to perform at our festival.
Connections 2021 will see Derby Theatre become a vibrant artistic hub where young people will take over the building. On offer throughout the week will be the chance for young people to see their peers perform and participate in a wide range of events and exciting workshops led by leading creative professionals – including: The Universal Stage by Single Shoe Productions (online); Puppetry with Vicky Hancock (online); Stage Design with Nikki Charlesworth (in-person); Vocal Gym with Speakeasy (in-person) and Working in Theatre – How To Get Started with Sarah Brigham (pre-recorded Q&A), Artistic Director, Derby Theatre.
National Theatre Connections is perfect for young people who have a passion for, and interest in, theatre, arts, writing and performance. Ideal for like-minded young people to share and enjoy together, the Festival is open to all and Derby Theatre looks forward to welcoming familiar and new young faces to the venue for this exciting annual event.
The plays being performed this year include: A Series of Public Apologies (14+); Wind/Rush Generation (15+, Content Warning around Racism); The IT, Like There’s No Tomorrow and Witches Can’t Be Burned.
Groups from the region performing at the Festival this year include: Burton & South Derbyshire College, Telford Priory School, Loughborough Schools, Rugby Schools, Dudley College Performing Arts and Derby Theatre Connections Company.
