Three bursaries on offer for artists from the region
Through the Arts Council England Sustained Theatre Fund, Derby Theatre, in association with Tamasha Developing Artists and In Good Company, the Theatre’s professional artist development scheme, are thrilled to offer three £2000 bursaries to artists of colour/BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) from the Midlands region.
These bursaries are being offered to support the development of culturally diverse artists in recognition that artists of colour are currently underrepresented in the industry, including Derby Theatre’s immediate pool of artists.
The three bursaries on offer include: one to be Assistant Director on an upcoming Derby Theatre production, one to develop an ongoing artistic practice, for artists of any theatre discipline from within the East Midlands (including live arts, acting, writing, directing and devising) and one to develop an ongoing artistic practice for an artist from either the East or West Midlands.
Sarah Brigham (Artistic Director and Chief Executive, Derby Theatre) said:
"It is fantastic that thanks to the partnership with Tamasha and Arts Council Sustained Theatre funding we are able to offer these bespoke packages which will support the development of culturally diverse artists. We know that we need to get much better at representing artists of colour (BAME) in the region and this is one small step towards that goal which will hopefully result in some new fantastic theatre for our audiences."
Rafia Hussain (Producer) said:
"As the Producer of this programme, I'm really excited by the prospect of finding new artists of colour from Derby and the surrounding region. I'd ask that anyone out there who has an idea, no matter how small, or who wants to get involved with theatre, but doesn't know how, to please get in touch with me and I can introduce them to these bursary offers and all the other exciting opportunities we have here at Derby Theatre."
