Treasure Island will set sail again this Christmas

For Christmas 2021, Derby Theatre is delighted to announce that they will be reviving and presenting their production of Treasure Island, a pirate-filled show perfect for the whole family, on from Friday 26 November until Friday 31 December.

Treasure Island was due to open as the Theatre’s big family production for Easter in March last year, but as the pandemic started to emerge, we had to batten down the hatches and sadly cancel the show.

However, as we look to the future, we are thrilled to be reviving the show to share with our audiences over Christmas 2021.

As this much-welcomed revival was pretty much ready to go, Treasure Island will replace Aladdin as our main house Christmas show for this year, but we are hoping Aladdin will fly back into our Theatre in the near future.

The spectacular swashbuckling adventure, follows the hugely successful production of The Jungle Book in spring 2019 and once again, all performances will have fully integrated BSL and Captioning, making the production accessible for Deaf and hearing audiences. The production will also include live audio described performances.

Casting details will be announced soon. The creative team is: Sarah Brigham (Director); Emily Howlett (Associate Director); Neil Irish (Designer); Ivan Stott (Composer); Tim Skelly (Lighting Designer) and Daryl Jackson (BSL Consultant).

Theresa Heskins’ award-wining adaptation of Treasure Island is inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of buried treasure and buccaneers. Brimming with a bountiful supply of original live music, sumptuous sets and costumes, drama and ahoy me hearties, this will be a thrilling theatrical voyage for all ages to embark on.

Accessible Performances

All performances of Treasure Island will contain fully integrated British Sign Language and Captions.

Live Audio Described Performances, including a touch tour before the show, will be on Wed 8 Dec at 2.30pm and Sat 18 Dec at 2.30pm.

We will present a Relaxed Performance (for audience members who might benefit from a more relaxed environment) on Sat 11 Dec at 2.30pm plus a Dementia-Friendly Performance on Wed 29 Dec at 2.30pm.
