A week in the life of Emily, work experience student

This week we have had Emily and Lewis on work experience with us! In this blog Emily tells us about her time here...

Hello, my name is Emily and I am currently on day 4 of my work experience. I study at The Ripley Academy and decided to come to Derby Theatre for work experience as I have seen shows in the past and took part in Youth Theatre when I was younger, which I really enjoyed. This week I was hoping to speak to many different people that work here and see what goes into the making of a show. Not only this but I wanted to discover what other work they do with many different organisations to get involved with the people of Derby.

I have done many exciting things such as experiencing meetings, shadowing an usher, looking through tour packs and doing programming tasks, spending time on box office, going on backstage tours and individually speaking to people about the work they do inside and outside of Derby Theatre.

Not only have I learnt about work inside the theatre but I have picked up many skills that will help me in the future such as building my confidence and working with others. This experience has also helped me to begin to make a decision on my future - which is very helpful.

Tomorrow I will be working with marketing, which I’m sure will be amazing and I will get to know more about the job they do and try out some tasks related to the marketing role.

Overall my experience at Derby Theatre has been great and I have loved every day. I think it’s a great opportunity to try out something new and learn many things about life.
