What Happened to Vandal Raptor? - Blog by Henry Raby

We caught up with Henry Raby about his show What happened to Vandal Raptor? which comes to our Studio in April...

Introduce yourself and a little bit about what you do…

Vandal Factory is a collaboration between poet Henry Raby and director Natalie Quatermass.  We make work that is spiky and political mixing music, story-telling and poetry.

Can you tell us a bit about your show, What Happened to Vandal Raptor?

4 best mates formed a punk band and thought they’d change the world.  But the band broke up and the world changed them.  10 years later they reconnect in their old stomping ground.  The outcome is funny and a little bit sad as they remiss about music and activism.  It’s about growing up and trying to stay passionate.

What’s been your favourite part of the process so far?

Punk rock is in our blood, but it was very fun to revisit old songs, read essays, biographies and watch documentaries and totally immerse ourselves in the genre.  The show is for anyone, you don’t need to have any knowledge of the punk genre but you might leave wanting to put patches on your trousers.

Why should people come to see the show?

It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you think, it’ll make you angry at the world and, if you’re up for it, it’ll make you sing along to some punky tunes.
