Plea Bargain (part of The S.H.E.D at Departure Lounge)

Part of Departure Lounge Festival 2019

Friday 19 July, 20 minute slots between 12:30pm & 6:30pm
Venue: The S.H.E.D in Derbados (Car Park)

Plea Bargain is a 20 minute, one-to-one performance based on Jake’s experience of the criminal justice system. You the audience take the role of a solicitor and with the limited time you have must find the facts and pass your judgement.

Plea Bargain is deceptively simple. A small interaction most people never experience. The piece stands as a window into a very grey area.

This work speaks to the time old questions we hear time and time again about our justice system. A bold statement to an already preaching choir. A stone tossed into an endless mass of murky waters.

"The dilemma at the heart of it is a genuinely difficult one for many of us – I think - to come down on one side or the other of. Pragmatism versus idealism: a dilemma of our times"
Alex, Third Angel.

"I walked into something my mind genuinely couldn't fathom. My heart felt heavy. My voice silenced - for the duration of the interaction I sat across from Jake stunned by the power of it all"
John, Icecap Theatre.

The S.H.E.D

Departure Lounge’s intriguing outdoor performance destination for this year will be hosted by S.H.E.D. Presents with the S.H.E.D. (Social Higher Education Depot), an old garden shed placed in the heart of Derbados that will transform into a mobile arts venue to create an alternative site for artistic practice.
