Separate Doors is coming to Derby Theatre with its national integrated ensemble of 13 actors with, and without, learning disabilities and neuro-diversities.
Working on four new short plays by writers Elizabeth Kuti, Lydia Marchant, Sarah Middleton and Lou Ramsden the company will host workshops and invite theatre professionals, students, and makers to learn about our unique way of making theatre for everyone – the Silent Approach.

Separate Doors' Artistic Director Ness Brooks, creator of the Silent Approach, will talk about the method, what it is and what it’s for, working with our national ensemble and including some practical rehearsal room exercises for all.
You will learn about:
Our non-verbal rehearsal room practice, The Silent Approach.
Why and how to work without words in a rehearsal room.
The landscape and history of integrated theatre (casts of actors with and without learning disabilities and neuro-diversities).
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for everyone aged 14 up and especially for:
- Theatre Leaders, commissioners, funders and strategists
