Separate Doors is coming to Derby Theatre with its national integrated ensemble of 13 actors with, and without, learning disabilities and neuro-diversities. 

Working on four new short plays by writers Elizabeth Kuti, Lydia Marchant, Sarah Middleton and Lou Ramsden the company will host workshops and invite theatre professionals, students, and makers to learn about our unique way of making theatre for everyone – the Silent Approach.

Separate Doors' New Writing Associate, playwright Judith Johnson, will share the dramaturgical process through the project and the four writers will outline how they crafted non-verbal leading roles for ensemble actors with limited verbal and literary skills. 

There will also be an opportunity to take part in a practical exercise.

You will learn about:

The writers’ journeys from pitch to development to rehearsal.

Our non-verbal rehearsal room practice, The Silent Approach.

Helpful tools for writing roles for actors with learning disabilities.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for everyone aged 14 up and especially for:

- Writers and Directors
- Students

Tickets are free but spaces are limited, please book in advance.
