Naples 1606, the painter Caravaggio is running away from his murderous past. Homeless and in exile, in a desperate act of redemption, he works on his masterpiece The Seven Acts of Mercy.
In present day Bootle, a community struggles against economic deprivation and the sting of social regeneration. Leon, desperate to teach his granddaughter the values of life in this fractured society, does so in the only way he knows how – through the great works of art and Caravaggio’s paintings.
