Attending a Performance
Derby Theatre has two exciting performance spaces which cater to a wide range of performances and events.
Main House: Our Main Auditorium is situated on level 2 of the building, seating approximately 530 people. Access is generally down steps from the rear of the auditorium with wheelchair access spaces on P row. Please speak to our box office team if you require any additional information on access. Our Main Auditorium is accessible via our central stairs or via a lift which can be found on all levels of our building.
Studio: Our Studio Theatre is situated on level 0 of our building, seating approximately 100 people depending on the staging of our varied programme.
We advise that all customers visiting our Studio Theatre arrive at level 1 of our main building approximately 10-15 minutes before the performance start time. Our Front of House team will then escort you down to the Studio via a staircase through the Intu Basement Car Park. If you require lift access please ask a member of our Front of House team and they will be more than happy to help.
If you have any pushchairs please seek assistance from a member of staff and they will advise best place to locate them during your visit with us.
Please note: the external entrance to the Studio will only be open 10 minutes before the performance begins and then will close once the show is on.
We always try our best to seat latecomers in both our performance spaces at appropriate points in the performance, as advised by the production company. We may have to find alternative space temporarily and you will be able to move to your seats during the interval to cause minimal disruption to other audience member and our performers.
Some shows may operate a no latecomers or non-remittance policy due to the type or genre of the performance or for safety reasons. If we are aware of this prior we will endeavour to advise all customers when booking their tickets with us.
Latecomers in our Studio Theatre: Please be advised that we inform patrons attending a performance in our Studio Theatre that they ideally need to be arriving 10-15 minutes before the event. The nature of our space can sometimes mean that we may not always be able to facilitate latecomers due to the level or disruption, but also safety of walkways. Our Front of House team will always try their best in this situation but if you are running late please inform our Box Office Team.
Mobile Phones and Photography
Derby Theatre has a strict no mobile phone policy. This is a condition of entry. Please ensure you turn your mobile phone off before entering the auditorium and refrain from using it during the performance.
Photography and video recording is also strictly prohibited.
If you do see members of the public using a mobile phone or recording device please inform a member of our team and we will be able to assist.
Security and Cloakroom
Derby Theatre takes the safety of all its audiences, performers, staff and students extremely seriously. Please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff if you see anything usual or suspicious.
Unfortunately we do not have a cloakroom facility and are not permitted to look after personal belongings. Please seek guidance if you think your item will compromise any emergency exits during your visit. On this occasion our Duty Manager will assist and make a judgement. If any belongings are to be stored securely by our staff, please expect and be willing to for your item to have a security search.
